Blue Swedish folk art candelabrum with hand-painted floral detail, Art of Revival inventory

What Is Folk Art Decor?

Folk art decor has a kind of directness that I love. It is often painted, handmade, useful, imperfect, and full of charm. It does not try to be grand, which is exactly why it can make a room feel more personal.

In interiors, folk art might show up as a painted wood candleholder, carved object, small chair, box, textile, tray, or decorative piece with strong color and simple ornament.

What to look for: hand-painted detail, honest construction, useful forms, color that feels alive, and small irregularities that make the piece feel human.

Folk art works beautifully with antiques because it loosens the room. It can sit near serious furniture and make everything feel less stiff.

The best folk pieces feel like they were made by someone, not just produced by something.
