What it is A pair of framed ink drawings by Swedish artist Bengt Hallgren (1924-1986), each featuring horse motifs and signed and dated 1978. The drawings are presented in glazed wood frames and have the loose, graphic quality that makes works on paper feel immediate and personal.
Why I bought it I love that these are a pair. Horse drawings can become too literal, but these feel more collected and artistic. The ink line gives them movement, and the Swedish provenance makes them especially right for a room with Gustavian furniture, books, textiles, and older pieces.
How to use it Hang them together over a small chest, split them on either side of a mirror, or layer them into a gallery wall. They would be beautiful in a library, hallway, bedroom, tack-room-inspired space, or any room that needs framed art with a little movement.
