An antique Russian Orthodox icon of the Kazan Mother of God, painted on panel and dressed in a repoussé brass oklad (cover). The metal cover is worked with radiating halos, flowing drapery, a scrolling foliate border, and a titled cartouche, leaving the painted faces and hands of the Virgin and Christ Child visible.
A warm, glowing piece for a bookshelf, a gallery wall, or propped on a mantel.
