A six-light chandelier in the Louis XV manner, 20th century, with scrolling rocaille arms and acanthus detail in gilt bronze. This came from a private estate outside Stockholm, where it hung in a formal dining room with damask walls and portraits that hadn't been moved since the 1960s. The kind of house where they still used the good silver for Sunday dinners. What caught me was the weight of it — substantial bronze, not hollow stamped metal — and the way the gilt has mellowed to that deep honey tone that only comes from decades of candle smoke and central heating. Professionally rewired for US standards with new chain.
Condition: Age-appropriate patina throughout with honest wear to high points where the gilding has rubbed through to bronze beneath. Some surface dirt in the crevices. Original finish. Structurally sound. Minor losses to a few leaf tips. Shows its years in the best way.
Curator's note
Chosen for that restrained Swedish feeling: pale surface, graceful scale, and quiet old-world character.
