What is it? A late 19th century French pedestal in Louis XVI style — mahogany column, tripod base with brass sabots, grey marble top with brass gallery rail. 28.5 inches tall.
Where did it come from? France, late 19th century. Won at Austin Auction Gallery, January 2026.
Why did I choose it? It makes whatever sits on it look important — a lamp, a sculpture, a plant. The combination of mahogany, marble, and brass is restrained and correct.
Condition: Good. Marble top intact. Brass hardware original.
