What is it? A pair of turned white marble table lamps in classical urn form, raised on stepped square plinths — Italy, second half of the 20th century. Height without shade approximately 14.5", with shade approximately 21". Shade diameter approximately 15".
Where did they come from? A private European collection, chosen by someone with a genuine eye. The marble is white with soft grey veining throughout, the turning crisp and unhurried — the kind of stonework that suggests Italy knew exactly what it was doing with this form. The embroidered cream shades — trailing botanicals in soft blues, pinks, coral, and sage — are a little unexpected against the austerity of the stone, and that tension is exactly what makes them interesting. Keep the shades for a layered, collected look, or swap them for something more tailored if you want the bases to carry the room alone.
Why did I choose them? The quality of the turning, and the fact that they're a matched pair. Good marble lamps with this kind of presence are harder to find than people expect — and a pair is harder still.
Condition: Honest wear consistent with age and use. Some chips and minor marks to the marble. Light crazing to the interior of the shades. Not electrically tested — rewiring recommended before use.
